Professional Initial Assessment of Your Trading Card
The Black Grading Service PRE-GRADING service provides a professional visual condition assessment for trading cards up to 55 pt.
Our grading staff carefully inspect both the front and back of the card with the naked eye. The assessment focuses on visually identifiable characteristics, including the surface, centering, edges and corners.
Based on this visual inspection, the card receives one professional overall grade.
PRE-GRADING does not include individual subgrades. Surface, centering, edges and corners are taken into consideration when determining the overall grade but are not displayed as separate scores.
This service is ideal for collectors who want a professional assessment of the visually identifiable condition of their trading card.
DATABASE REGISTRATION & DIGITAL CARD VIEW
Once the PRE-GRADING process has been completed, the card is registered in the Black Grading Service database.
Images of both the front and back of the card are recorded and linked to the individual database entry. The service also includes a private 3D slab view of the card.
The digital entry can be accessed at any time by scanning the QR code on the label or by entering the individual serial number.
This allows the assessed card to be digitally identified and viewed together with its registered images.
PRE-GRADING LABEL
PRE-GRADING cards receive a dedicated black-and-white Black Grading Service PRE-GRADING label.
The design of this label is predefined and cannot be individually selected.
The character name and set name are not displayed on the PRE-GRADING label.

PRE-GRADING is a professional visual condition assessment based on characteristics that can be identified with the naked eye.
The service provides one overall grade without individual subgrades and should not be considered equivalent to a full grading service with detailed individual subgrade assessments.
The standard processing time is approximately 14–21 business days.
The database entry includes images of the card as well as a private 3D slab view. Public statistical registration or inclusion in a public population report is not part of the PRE-GRADING service.
